CPI(M) accuses ED of ‘politically targeting’ Pinarayi Vijayan in money laundering case

Congress MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan accused former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of alleged "unusual corruption" in the CMRL case, alleging that crores of rupees were credited to his daughter T. Veena's account without any service provided. Kuzhalnadan responded to Vijayan's recent claim that he, his daughter, and other family members had done nothing wrong, stating that Vijayan's assertion was an attempt to divert attention from the alleged corruption.

Kuzhalnadan had previously alleged in the Assembly that T. Veena received money from the CMRL without any service, but Vijayan had denied this allegation. Kuzhalnadan submitted a privilege notice against Vijayan's false statement, which was later withdrawn by the Speaker. Kuzhalnadan feared that Vijayan was struggling to retain his position within his party and the front, as the situation had reached a point where even communists did not believe him.

Kuzhalnadan also questioned Vijayan's reported assertion that the amount involved in the case was small, referring to an ED press release stating that ₹20.5 crore had been diverted. He emphasized that this was "unusual corruption" as large sums of money were allegedly credited to T. Veena's account while she was not holding any office.

Kuzhalnadan called on ordinary communists and members of the working class to take note of the statement, stating that from Vijayan's recent comments, it was evident that ₹20 crore was considered a small amount for both T. Veena and Vijayan.
