Budget 2027 to focus on cost‑of‑living issues and attracting investment, says Fahmi

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 — The Madani Government has announced that Budget 2027 will prioritize addressing the escalating cost-of-living concerns faced by Malaysians, in light of the ongoing global geopolitical uncertainties, according to Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, the Government Spokesperson and Communications Minister. Fahmi emphasized that the budget planning process would also account for external factors, including fluctuations in global crude oil prices, which often serve as key benchmarks.

"Our primary focus in Budget 2027 will be to comprehensively tackle the people's cost-of-living challenges, while considering the unresolved geopolitical situation," he stated. During a press briefing following the launch of the 2026 Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) X JAGO programme for Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Fahmi was joined by Normaizatulakmal Tujad, the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Information Department director.

The Budget 2027 will also prioritize initiatives capable of swiftly resolving the people's issues, alongside attracting increased domestic and international investment to support the 13th Malaysia Plan. Fahmi highlighted that one of the Communications Ministry's key priorities is to expand internet access, particularly in remote regions.

He also mentioned that the ministry is exploring media sustainability issues and providing incentives to draw international events and film productions to Malaysia. Incentives such as the Concerts and Events in Malaysia Incentive (CIME) and Filming in Malaysia Incentive (FIMI) are currently under discussion, he added.
