Brighton start Premier League season with 10-man Villa rout

Brighton kicked off their Premier League season with a commanding 4-0 victory over Aston Villa at the Amex Stadium on Sunday. Maxim de Cuyper scored the opening goal with an own goal in the eighth minute, followed by another from De Cuyper 10 minutes later. Villa, who finished fourth in the top flight last season, then struggled as Jack Hinshelwood scored two quick goals within minutes to put Brighton 4-0 ahead.

The visitors were further inconvenienced when Unai Emery's side were reduced to 10 men after Joao Gomes was sent off for a red card in the 40th minute, ending his nightmare debut.
