A 22-year-old woman from Sagar in Shivamogga district, Vanishree, allegedly took her own life at Agara Lake in Bengaluru due to continuous blackmail and harassment by a man named Abhishek A.S., according to her sister's complaint. Vanishree, who stayed in a PG accommodation in HSR Layout and worked at a jewellery store, had reportedly been a friend with Abhishek since their PU college days.
After completing her degree, she moved to Bengaluru in search of employment and was staying at a PG in Konappana Agrahara. Vanishree's sister, Pooja, was informed by Vanishree's PG mate that her sister had left a note mentioning Abhishek's troubling and blackmailing behavior. Upon learning of the situation, Pooja and the PG owner alerted the HSR Layout police, who subsequently searched the area around Agara Lake and recovered Vanishree's body.
The police have registered a case against Abhishek under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, for abetment of suicide, and are currently investigating the allegations while launching a search operation to trace Abhishek.
