A devastating incident marred Sunday's Dutch Grand Prix, as Max Verstappen's car skidded off track during the first lap, leaving the four-time Formula 1 champion unhurt. Verstappen was cruising along in seventh place before losing control while correcting a slide through the final corner on a wet track. His Red Bull rammed into a barrier and slid across the track, colliding with another wall and sending debris flying across the circuit.

The crash prompted a red flag, halting the race temporarily. Verstappen radioed his team, "I’m OK," while apologizing to the Red Bull crew.

The massive impact forced a half-hour delay as marshals cleared the wreckage and debris from the track. Moments later, Audi's Gabriel Bortoleto spun across the track, leaving his teammate Nico Hülkenberg with barely enough time to react. Hülkenberg executed a swift evasion to avoid a potentially devastating T-bone collision.

Verstappen later admitted he had misjudged his speed on the damp surface after rain before the race. The crash proved especially difficult for the Dutch fans, who had traveled in large numbers to support their local hero. Verstappen's final home race was particularly heartbreaking, as the Dutch Grand Prix is set to be dropped from the Formula 1 calendar following this season.

However, the chaotic race provided a significant boost for Lando Norris's championship defense. Starting from pole, Norris lost the lead to Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli following the crash. Norris gradually closed the gap, executing a daring move around the outside of the first corner on lap 54. Despite running on older tyres, Norris completed the pass and took the lead from Hamilton later in the race.

Norris's second consecutive victory came after his victory in Budapest, saying, "This fight is still on." Antonelli finished second, followed by George Russell, Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, Oscar Piastri, Liam Lawson, Hülkenberg, Fernando Alonso, and Pierre Gasly. Antonelli's championship lead over Russell and Hamilton now stands at 59 points, while Norris moved into fourth place.
