Indore farmers rally against Ahilyapath scheme ahead of IDA meeting

The Bharatiya Kisan Mazdoor Sena has called for the Indore Development Authority (IDA) to cancel the proposed Ahilyapath scheme at their upcoming board meeting. Organisation president Bablu Jadhav and state vice-president Shailendra Patel argue that acquiring remaining agricultural land for the scheme would further diminish the cultivable land available to farmers in villages surrounding Indore. These villages include Nainod, Rislai, Budhaniya, Bada Bangarda, Palakhedi, Limbodagari, Revati, and Bardari, among others.

The farmers claim that hundreds of acres have already been lost to projects like Super Corridor, Medical Hub, Housing Board developments, TPS-10, and the Indore-Ujjain Greenfield Highway. They question the necessity of another land-based scheme, as the Greenfield Highway project is already underway to enhance connectivity and traffic flow between Indore and Ujjain.

The farmers body raises concerns about the feasibility of obtaining 60% of the required land through the Town Planning Scheme (TPS), stating that the target may be unrealistic. Despite earlier reconsiderations and farmer objections, the proposal remains in motion. Jadhav asserts that development should only involve farmers' land when it is truly necessary, justified, and in the public interest.

The organization warns that the absence of scheme withdrawal could result in a phased and intensified protest, with affected farmers staging a public demonstration in the streets. They hold the IDA and state government accountable for any ensuing agitation.
