21-year-old dies after pistol ‘accidentally’ goes off

On Saturday night, a 21-year-old LLB student from Chandigarh University named Ajay Gill tragically lost his life after a pistol he was holding accidentally discharged, with the bullet striking his head. Gill, who hailed from Firozepur Road in Ludhiana, was out with three friends visiting the Daflo Club in Sector 26. As they returned to their SUV near a wine shop on Madhya Marg in Sector 17, it is believed that Gill was carrying the gun when it went off, leading to serious injuries.

Upon returning to the vehicle, Gill's friends noticed his condition and immediately took him to Government Hospital in Sector 16, Chandigarh. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, it was later confirmed that the young student had succumbed to his injuries. In response to the incident, police launched an investigation. The friends who were with Gill have since been detained and are currently being questioned by authorities.

Both the SHO of Police Station Sector 17 and DSP (Central) SPS Sondhi arrived at the scene following the report. The police are currently investigating the incident to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the firing. It was initially reported that the pistol in question was a licensed weapon, but police are now verifying this information and are also examining other aspects of the case.

DSP Sondhi stated, "Initially, it appears to be an accidental discharge. The victim was a third-year LLB student. The investigation is ongoing."
