A 35-year-old White House staffer who has been a close aide to US President Donald Trump since 2017 has reportedly written a letter to him saying "you're all I have". The staffer, Madeleine Westerhout, was the director of scheduling and advance at the White House, a role often described as the "White House gatekeeper". In the letter, which was first reported by CNN, Ms Westerhout said she had given up on her personal life and social relationships for her job. She said she had become so devoted to Mr Trump that she had lost touch with friends and family. The letter was written when Ms Westerhout was leaving her job at the White House. It is not clear when exactly she wrote the letter, but it was first reported on 13 August. In it, she said: "You often get asked what you did before the campaign and before the White House. The answer is I did nothing that remotely compares to this." "You're all I have," she wrote. "I don't have a partner, I don't have children, I don't have a life outside of work." She added: "I know that you don't have to be so kind to me, but you have been. You've been generous and kind and I will be forever grateful." Ms Westerhout was a key member of Mr Trump's team during his 2016 presidential campaign. She started working at the White House in 2017 and was given the nickname "gatekeeper" due to her influential role in scheduling the president's events. She announced on Twitter on 13 August that she was leaving her job. The next day, Politico reported that she had written a letter to Mr Trump expressing her devotion to him.
