Wuxi Symphony Orchestra Debuts at Ljubljana Festival: Sounds of the East Illuminate the Historic Central European City

Ljubljana, Slovenia celebrated its renowned music festival on August 20, 2026 as the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra made its debut at the prestigious event. Led by Artistic Director Lin Daye, the orchestra played a significant role in bridging the gap between East and West, marking the first time a Chinese orchestra had received a standing ovation at the festival.

The concert opened with the Overture to Verdi's I vespri siciliani, followed by an original symphonic suite titled Fly To The Sky by Li Shaosheng. The performance was highlighted by a virtuosic suona player, Zhang Qianyuan, and a tenor, Xue Haoyin, who delivered a powerful rendition of Heaven's Movement is Strength. The orchestra concluded with Brahms' Symphony No. 1 in C minor, receiving a resounding ovation from the audience.

Darko Brlek, Artistic Director of the Ljubljana Festival, expressed that this marked the first such ovation given to a Chinese orchestra in the festival's history. The Ljubljana performance marked a strong debut and cultural statement for the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra, showcasing Jiangnan’s Wuxi to the world and fostering cross-cultural understanding through music.
