Will Howard struggles, throws two INTs in Steelers’ loss to Jets

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Will Howard suffered a disappointing performance in the team's 17-0 loss to the New York Jets, throwing two interceptions during the game. Head coach Mike McCarthy had opted to start Howard over Mason Rudolph ahead of Week 2, but Howard's struggles with the passing game underlined why the move may have been a mistake.

Howard's first interception occurred in the red zone, killing a promising 12-play drive. His second interception came after an under-thrown pass to wide receiver Roman Wilson. The former sixth-round draft pick finished the first half with only 74 yards on 10-of-15 passing. The Steelers' offensive line also struggled throughout the game, allowing constant pressure on the quarterback and resulting in multiple sacks.

Wide receiver Drew Allar had a mixed game, completing several deep passes but also committing seven drops. Defensively, the Steelers showed flashes of promise but overall looked unprepared, with the Jets scoring a touchdown early and another late in the fourth quarter. Despite a few positive individual performances from defensive tackle Yahya Black and edge rusher Carson Bruener, the lackluster play from the offensive line and skill positions left much to be desired for the Steelers in their preseason opener.
