West Boca Raton football shuts down 5-star QB, tops American Heritage

The West Boca Raton football team demonstrated their defensive prowess in their opening game of the 2026 season, defeating American Heritage 24-7. The Bulls started their title defense with a strong performance, suffocating the opposition's offense led by 5-star Texas quarterback commit Neimann Lawerence. The Bulls held the Patriots without a first down until the third quarter, and intercepted the 5-star junior twice.

West Boca opened the scoring on their second possession with a 58-yard touchdown pass from Trey Moran to Lorantae Davis. Moran had an outstanding night, completing 13-of-20 passes for two touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. Head coach Dylan Potts praised the defense, stating that their strong defensive play was a key factor in their victory.

After a second Patriots' three-and-out, West Boca scored another touchdown. Delorian Airall Jr. intercepted a pass from American Heritage just five plays later, extending the lead. Blake Mitchell's pass breakup in the end zone further protected the 14-0 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, a clock-chewing drive resulted in a 1-yard touchdown from Moran, extending the lead to 21-0.

American Heritage responded with a 2-yard touchdown carry from Tremaine Mullen. A mishandled snap on a punt attempt provided West Boca with good field position, and they capitalized with a field goal. Max Reid sealed the game with his interception early in the fourth quarter. Potts expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, emphasizing the defense's effectiveness and the offensive momentum gained.
