TVLine's Performer Of The Week: Kyle Chandler
Kyle Chandler hit the ground running in the Lanterns series premiere as grizzled superhero Hal Jordan - see why he's TVLine's Performer of the Week.
In the latest episode of Friday Night Lights, actor Kyle Chandler showcased his versatility by portraying Hal Jordan, the grizzled superhero in HBO's Lanterns. Chandler effortlessly transitioned from his iconic role as Coach Eric Taylor in Friday Night Lights to this new character, imbuing Hal with a mix of mentor wisdom and playful charm.
During the series premiere, Hal welcomed John Stewart into the world of being a superhero, sharing his origin story in a grainy 90s TV interview. Despite his rough exterior, Chandler managed to capture Hal's earnest charm, evident in his explanation of how he became the Green Lantern. In a surprising twist, Hal arrived in a vintage muscle car, playing KC and the Sunshine Band on the radio, hinting at his more relaxed side.
The actor also demonstrated Hal's disciplinary side when he scolded John with a tough edge, calling him a "f**king substitute teacher." This performance displayed Chandler's ability to bring depth and complexity to his superhero character.
