Trump calls Strait of Hormuz ‘American territory’

On Friday, US President Donald Trump asserted that the Strait of Hormuz belonged to the United States during a rally in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Referring to the Iranian nuclear threat, Trump stated, "We cannot let them have a nuclear weapon; we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon, or you will see some very bad things." He claimed that the US had control over the Strait of Hormuz, which is a crucial waterway through which a significant portion of global energy supplies pass.

Trump questioned whether Washington would accept a deal offered by Iran but emphasized his view of the waterway as American territory. Iranian officials, including Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi and Supreme National Security Council head Mohsen Rezaei, vehemently rejected Trump's claims, stating that the US President's assertions would be corrected.
