Tree falls on 2 cars in Dempsey area, private hire driver freed from MPV by spa staff
The other car was parked; incident saw traffic at Loewen Road blocked.
A private hire driver was left unharmed after a tree fell on his vehicle in the Dempsey area on August 22. The incident occurred when Saiful, a 60-year-old man, was driving his white Nissan MPV out of the Museum of Ice Cream on Loewen Road. As he turned the vehicle, he heard a loud cracking noise and observed the tree on his left side slowly falling in front of him.
Despite his attempts to reverse, parts of the tree had already fallen onto the passenger side, crushing the roof of his car. Saiful found himself trapped in the driver's seat, unable to open the door from inside.
Fortunately, employees of a spa located near the accident scene came to his aid shortly after. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and an ambulance also arrived at the scene, checking Saiful for injuries. Fortunately, he sustained no injuries, and his family arrived shortly after. As of 12:45 PM, Loewen Road remained blocked as landscape contractors continued to remove the remaining parts of the tree from the road.
