Teacher, 6-year-old son killed after MPV skids into ditch

KUANTAN: A teacher and her six-year-old son lost their lives when the multi-purpose vehicle they were riding in veered off the road and crashed into a ditch near Kampung Bukit Serok, Muadzam Shah, on the evening of yesterday. The 47-year-old father, the driver, sustained severe injuries in the accident that occurred at 9:30pm. According to Superintendent Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi, the family of three was en route from Seremban, Negri Sembilan, to Felda Keratong 1 in Muadzam Shah.

Preliminary reports suggest the MPV collided with a piece of wood on the road, causing it to lose control and flip over in a ditch on the right side. Mrs. Kartine Ngatenan, 46, a teacher at a school in Seremban, and her six-year-old son, Muhammad Akif Mohd Azmi, perished at the scene. Mohd Azmi Mohahir, the MPV driver, is currently receiving medical treatment at Muadzam Shah Hospital.

Firefighters from the Muadzam Shah Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 9:56pm and had to use special equipment to extricate the bodies of the mother and son from the MPV. The bodies were subsequently sent to Muadzam Shah Hospital for autopsy. The incident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
