Seat of caliphate under threat, stop Sokoto killings – MURIC to Defence minister

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has urged the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, to take action against the rising violence and killings in the country. They specifically highlighted the recent incidents in Sokoto State, which has become a focal point of concern. In a statement released on Saturday, MURIC's Executive Director, Professor Isiaq Akintola, emphasized the urgent need to end widespread killings, kidnappings, and other violent crimes.

He warned that Sokoto State is currently under siege, as farmlands remain inaccessible to farmers and villagers are forced to seek refuge outside their communities. The issue has even reached the city dwellers, who now sleep with one eye open due to the heightened state of insecurity. MURIC pointed out that the level of terrorism has been particularly concentrated in Sokoto State over the past two years, causing significant repercussions for both the Nigerian security infrastructure and its citizens.

They held the Nigerian Army accountable for the security failures in and around Sokoto, and demanded a robust defense mechanism to address the crisis. MURIC stressed that the security lapses in the region constitute a threat to the seat of the Nigerian caliphate, and called for decisive action to protect the nation's security.
