Russia Strikes Boryspil and Zaporizhzhia, Killing 3 People

On Saturday, Aug. 22, Russian forces carried out a ballistic missile strike in the Boryspil district of the Kyiv region, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to five others, according to local authorities. The extent of the injuries and the victims' conditions are still being assessed, but all are receiving required medical attention.

The strike inflicted damage on a warehouse, a car parking lot, several vehicles, a private residence, and a gas station. Emergency services and specialists are currently attending to the aftermath of the attack.

Later that same day, Russian forces launched a series of seven missile strikes in the Zaporizhzhia district, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuries to 15 others, including a child. The attacks also caused significant damage to multiple private homes in the area. These strikes occurred following a broad barrage targeting the Kyiv and Odesa regions late Friday evening.

Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted 182 out of the 217 drones launched by Russian forces that evening, along with three aviation missiles and six loitering munitions. Direct hits were recorded at 41 separate locations.

The barrage coincided with a ballistic missile strike on a railway enterprise in Kyiv’s Darnytsia district early Saturday morning. This strike claimed the life of a foreman employed by the state rail operator Ukrzaliznytsia and sparked a warehouse fire. In the Odesa region, overnight missile attacks led to the casualties and extensive damage to transportation, industrial, energy, and residential infrastructure in several settlements.

This included the severe damage to the Rozdilna railway station, along with a five-story residential building, an industrial establishment, and a sports facility. Despite the fatalities and damage to railway infrastructure in both the Kyiv and Odesa regions, Ukrzaliznytsia reported that overall railway operations and train schedules remained unimpeded.
