Pope Leo calls for courage in Rimini visit after stop in tiny San Marino

Pope Leo XIV embarked on a visit to the Italian seaside resort of Rimini, where he urged attendees of a significant cultural and political gathering to be courageous pioneers in combating inequality and poverty. The event, known as the Rimini Meeting, is a blend of religion, culture, and politics that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each summer. The Pope's visit to Rimini was his final pastoral stop this summer, following a series of brief visits to nearby locations.

During his time in San Marino, Pope Leo XIV emphasized the importance of small states in addressing the needs of citizens and fostering a more effective democracy. The trip to San Marino followed a similar visit to Monaco in March. In Rimini, the Pope led an open-air mass attended by 40,000 people at the port, and he also visited an exhibition dedicated to Saint Augustine, the fifth-century Christian theologian.

The Pope concluded his day with a homily at Rimini cathedral, where he encouraged disabled and ailing members of the faith.
