PM Shehbaz takes notice of inoperative angiography unit at PIMS

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has shown concern over the non-operational state of the CT coronary angiography unit at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad. In response, he has formed an inquiry committee to investigate the matter thoroughly. The committee will be headed by the secretary of the Establishment Division and will include experts from various fields such as National Health Services, Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology, radiology, and cardiology departments.

The committee will have the authority to appoint additional members if needed and will receive support from the National Health Services Division. The committee's mandate includes determining if PIMS had the necessary technical capabilities to perform CT coronary angiograms since 2022, assessing the availability of resources and personnel, and scrutinizing hospital records to evaluate the number, dates, and nature of procedures performed during this period.

Furthermore, the inquiry will scrutinize the referral process between cardiology and radiology departments and the allegations surrounding patient redirection towards private diagnostic centers. The committee will also probe whether any private facilities received preferential treatment and the financial implications of diverting revenue from the public hospital.

The prime minister has specified that any subsequent actions will be taken strictly in accordance with the law following the committee's final report submission.
