Pelajar terima ganti rugi RM129,000 akibat melecur ketika program bubur lambuk

Mahkamah Sesyen Teluk Intan has ordered a school and two teachers to pay RM129,040 in compensation to a 17-year-old Secondary 5 student after they ruled the defendant guilty of allowing a mathematics class to be held in the school's kitchen area during a 2022 school program. Judge Gan Peng Kun stated that the defendant was guilty due to permitting the mathematics class to be conducted in the kitchen area when the program was ongoing, which caused the student to fall and injure their hand and left arm when they were knocked over by another student while the hot bubbling liquid was being stirred in a pot.

The incident occurred in April 2022 when the student was asked to join a cooking activity involving boiling bubbling liquid. They suffered a traumatic injury that led to a limp and had to wear long-sleeved clothing to cover their wound. The student also experienced shame and a loss of enthusiasm since the incident. Gan awarded RM100,000 as compensation for the permanent disability, RM5,000 for the severe burn on the left hand and arm, RM24,000 for the loss of left hand and arm sensation, and RM40 for the cost of medical documentation.

Their lawyer, Manoharan Malayalam, represented the plaintiff, while Federal Attorney Hamida Abdul Kadir appeared on behalf of the government.
