Palle Nidra enabling police to have informal interaction with common people, says Vizianagaram SP Damodar

Vizianagaram Superintendent of Police A.R. Damodar announced on August 22, 2026 that all Station House Officers and other personnel must adopt a friendly policing approach to encourage common people to approach police stations with their grievances without fear or tension. Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Damodar revealed that over 1,100 officials, including DSPs, Circle Inspectors, Sub Inspectors, Head Constables, and Constables, had participated in an informal interaction program called 'Mega Palle Nidra' in recent days.

The superintendent also personally interacted with villagers in Kapusambham village of Garividi mandal within Vizianagaram district. This initiative targeted 305 villages across the district. According to Mr. Damodar, under this concept, officials will reside in villages overnight and engage in conversations with elderly individuals, women, college students, and others.

People who are hesitant to visit police stations can openly discuss their issues related to law and order, thefts, domestic violence, and other matters in a casual manner with officials. The police have been instructed to maintain the Palle Nidra program on a fortnightly basis to address local disputes promptly and prevent the escalation of police cases.
