NSMQ 2026: ‘Wey Gey Hey’ shrugs off SIMMS SHS, Nkwatia Presby to secure one-eighth spot

Wesley Girls' High School demonstrated their dominance in the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) by leaving their rivals SIMMS SHS and Nkwatia Presby SHS behind, securing a coveted spot in the One-Eighth stage. After a disappointing loss to Abetifi Presby SHS that cost them their seeding, Wesley Girls' returned from the preliminary round with a renewed determination to prove their worth.

They showcased their prowess from the very first round, leading with 13 points compared to SIMMS' 10 and Nkwatia Presby's 6. This advantage grew as Wesley Girls' scored 21 points in the second round, while SIMMS and Nkwatia Presby trailed with 11 and 13 points, respectively.

By the third round, Wesley Girls' had widened their lead to 31 points, with SIMMS and Nkwatia Presby scoring 15 and 13 points, respectively. The school's dominance continued as they scored a perfect 10 in the third round, earning them the Prudential Life NSMQ Star cash prize of GH¢2,000. By the fourth round, Wesley Girls' had amassed an impressive 47 points, leaving SIMMS and Nkwatia Presby with 22 and 26 points, respectively.

A second perfect performance brought another reward, with Wesley Girls' claiming the GH¢500 JuPay Clean Sheet prize. The final round saw Wesley Girls' answer all four riddles correctly, winning them the GOIL Riddle Bonanza cash prize of GH¢1,200.

Wesley Girls' finished the contest with an impressive total of 59 points, comfortably ahead of Nkwatia Presby's 26 points and SIMMS' 22 points. This remarkable achievement was made even more significant considering the school had to fight its way back from the preliminary round following their loss to Abetifi Presby SHS. Now, Wesley Girls' are setting their sights even higher, vowing to take down the next set of contenders as they chase the ultimate prize.
