Norris clinches pole for Dutch Grand Prix

McLaren British driver Lando Norris secured pole position for Sunday's Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. The world champion outpaced Mercedes rivals George Russell and Kimi Antonelli by a significant margin. Norris clocked a speed of one minute and 11.163 seconds, a full 0.102 seconds ahead of his teammate. Norris expressed surprise at his performance, acknowledging the critical importance of every hundredth of a second in qualifying.

Russell had been the fastest driver throughout the weekend but was edged out to second place on the final qualifying lap due to light rain. World championship leader Antonelli finished third, disappointed with an error during the session that cost him precious tenths of a second. Since Zandvoort's return to the Grand Prix calendar in 2021, the pole-setter has claimed victory every time, given the race's challenging overtaking conditions.

Earlier in the day, Russell narrowed the championship gap with Antonelli by winning the sprint race, maintaining his lead from pole to finish. Sunday's race is expected to be exceptionally tight, with McLaren and Ferrari closing the gap with Mercedes. Kimi Antonelli currently holds a 53-point lead over Lewis Hamilton, but the chasing pack have gained ground with successful upgrades to their cars.
