Mumbai: BMC's Gen Z Fellowship Programme Draws 4,510 Registrations For 50 Seats, Offers ₹61,500 Monthly Stipend

Mumbai, August 22, 2026 - The BMC’s Gen Z Fellowship Programme has seen an overwhelming response, with 4,510 candidates applying for just 50 coveted positions. The program, costing a monthly stipend of Rs 61,500, provides a 12-month opportunity for young professionals from diverse backgrounds, including law, medicine, engineering, commerce, science, and the arts, to immerse themselves in civic administration.

Formulated by the BJP-led Mahayuti government, the Gen Z Fellowship Programme brings young professionals into the realm of policymaking, project planning, and governance. Participants work alongside senior civic officials, gaining hands-on experience in the workings of municipal administration. The application window opened on August 19, and within just a few days, the program had garnered significant interest.

As of now, around 2,500 candidates have submitted applications, and 530 have paid the required fee. Among the fee-paying applicants, BCom graduates lead with the most registrations, followed by BE/BTech graduates, BSc graduates, BA graduates, and LLB graduates. Remarkably, there is only one applicant each for LLM and MBBS degrees.

The eligibility criteria for the program are stringent, requiring applicants to be graduates with a minimum of 60% marks, proficient in Marathi, have knowledge of both Hindi and English, possess computer skills, and have at least one year of full-time work experience. Relevant internships, apprenticeships, and articleships are considered as work experience, while those who have previously participated in the BMC or Chief Minister’s Fellowship are ineligible.

The BMC anticipates that the number of applicants will increase as the deadline of August 31 approaches.
