Micah Jarrell leads Elkhart past Concord in thrilling season-opening win

Elkhart High School's Micah Jarrell delivered a stellar performance as the quarterback, leading his team to a thrilling 22-20 victory over rival Concord in their season-opening game. The win, which came at the new Jake Field at Concord High School, was secured by a 61-yard touchdown pass to Ta Michael Brown with just 11:50 remaining on the clock.

Jarrell, a 6-4, 215-pound senior who transferred from NorthWood, also rushed for 49 yards. Concord's Mason Bailey missed a crucial 28-yard field goal attempt with 22 seconds left to seal the win for Elkhart. Coach Travon Curry, whose team had lost to Concord 35-29 a year prior, emphasized the team's focus on finishing strong and staying locked in during crucial moments.

Concord, meanwhile, acknowledged their execution issues on the final play, attributing the loss to a missed kick. The game featured standout performances from Elkhart's defense and offense, with Jarrell throwing for 189 yards and rushing for 49, while PJ Laroche made a significant impact with a 67-yard touchdown catch. Concord, playing its first home game at their new facility, lost several key offensive players from the previous season, including seven All-NLC performers. The Lions will next host Warren Central on August 28th.
