Mayor Karachi Donates Streetlights and Fumigation Machines

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab recently donated 500 streetlights to Union Council chairmen and 50 fumigation machines to Town Chairmen during a ceremony at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s head office. The mayor made these donations in response to requests from Union Council chairmen and as part of a commitment made during the municipal budget session.

Wahab explained that the streetlights were intended to illuminate areas and restore the vibrancy of Karachi, while the fumigation machines would enhance local-level municipal services. The mayor also addressed fire safety improvements, revealing that oxygen masks and essential equipment have already been given to the Fire Brigade Department, and that non-functional fire tenders would be restored this year.

He expressed gratitude to the President, the Sindh Chief Minister, and the Pakistan Peoples Party leadership for their support in upgrading Karachi’s Fire Brigade Department with Rs7 billion. Furthermore, Wahab thanked the Chinese government for their cooperation during the fumigation activities in Karachi, noting that the initiative was discussed during the celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China relations.

He emphasized the availability of KMC development project details on the corporation’s website, stressing the transparency in the spending of public funds. Wahab concluded by stating that the 2023 City Council's performance would be judged by its service to Karachi, and any achievement would belong to the citizens rather than individual politicians.
