Kryvyi Rih mall strike could happen almost anywhere in Ukraine as Russia escalates terror

Russia's escalating terror campaign in Ukraine is prompting people and authorities in the country's rear oblasts to reevaluate their security measures. Andrii Kovalenko, head of Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation, warned of the potential for attacks like the recent one on the Soniachna Halereia shopping mall in Kryvyi Rih to occur almost anywhere in Ukraine due to Russia's expanding kill zone.

Kovalenko cautioned that the threat of intimidation and civilian killings is no longer confined to frontline and near-frontline cities but has extended up to 30 kilometers, as jet-powered drones can cover hundreds of kilometers and ballistic missiles can travel even further. He emphasized that Ukraine's officials and civilians must now prioritize security and internalize the reality that terror and intimidation can target them directly.

Kovalenko expressed hope that the current phase of escalation will eventually subside, with wars often going through cycles of intensification and de-escalation. He stressed the importance of surviving the current phase while continuously fighting against Russia and pursuing peace, which he believes diplomacy can ultimately achieve but requires the backing of effective tools to pressure Moscow.
