Kindiki: Ruto needs second term to build on foundation laid in first term

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has stated that President William Ruto requires a second term in office to build upon the groundwork his administration has established within its initial four-year tenure. Kindiki indicates that the Kenyan government plans to solicit another vote of confidence from Kenyans during the 2027 General Election, emphasizing that the first term was focused on implementing reforms and development programs that necessitate additional time for completion.

Speaking at Kinoru Stadium in Meru County on August 22, 2026, Kindiki highlighted the administration's achievements in various sectors, including agriculture, education, healthcare, and infrastructure, as evidence of the progress made during Ruto's first term. He emphasized that the government would present these accomplishments to voters, arguing that they should be judged based on tangible outcomes rather than political discourse.

Kindiki stressed that the Ruto administration has spent the past four years actively working on development initiatives, contrasting this with the opposition's apparent inactivity. He accused opposition leaders of lacking a coherent development agenda and challenged them to produce substantial contributions before the upcoming elections.
