I support calls for Energy Minister to appear before Parliament – Sagnarigu MP

Ghanaian Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, Atta Issah, has expressed his support for calls demanding that the energy minister testify before Parliament. In an interview on JoyNews' Newsfile, Issah emphasized that lawmakers bear the responsibility of interrogating officials and advocating for the people's concerns. He stated that an appearance by the Minister in Parliament would offer MPs the chance to pose questions and seek answers regarding the energy sector's challenges.

"I support the cause that he should come to Parliament because we are the people's representatives. Maybe there are some questions that people have to ask or suggestions that people have to make," Issah said on Saturday, August 22. These remarks come following the Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament's Energy Committee, Collins Adomako-Mensah, urging the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the energy minister to appear before Parliament to shed light on the persistent nationwide power outages.

Adomako-Mensah added that Parliament's deliberations on the 2027 Budget in November could serve as a platform for lawmakers to push for additional funding for the Energy Ministry, contingent upon the Minister providing satisfactory responses to the questions raised. Issah also praised the Energy Minister for his heightened media presence and interaction with stakeholders, but stressed that these engagements must ultimately result in concrete actions.
