I just did a full solar install instead of waiting for plug-in solar in the UK — here's why

I recently had my solar installation completed in Scotland, and I'm very pleased with both the process and the results. Although I was initially tempted to wait for plug-in solar when it became available in the UK, I decided against it due to several reasons that I will explain below. This decision is based on my long-term plans to stay in my home, my current setup, and the advantages of a full solar system compared to plug-in alternatives.

1. Staying put with a south-facing roof: I have a near-south-facing roof with no shading issues, making it an ideal location for solar panels. Since I plan to stay in my home for 10 to 15 years, investing in a full solar setup with a battery and gateway makes financial sense. It will pay for itself through electricity savings and potential energy export, providing free electricity in the long run. With my house's perfect conditions, getting a solar array seemed like a no-brainer.

2. Working from home factor: My wife and I both work from home, so having an off-grid solar system with a battery and gateway is essential for us. The gateway enables the solar system to operate independently from the grid, allowing us to continue working during power outages without interruption. This setup ensures our home remains powered through solar power, safeguarding our livelihoods and providing a financial benefit in case of outages.

3. Environmental benefits: Adopting solar energy, regardless of the type, contributes positively to the environment. While this applies to all solar users, the impact is particularly significant when using a full solar setup with a battery and gateway. These features enable efficient energy storage and independence, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and minimizing one's carbon footprint.
