Four Kogi family members, dog die after meal

Four family members perished after consuming a local delicacy in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area, Kogi State. Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, announced this on Saturday, following a comprehensive government investigation. The tragic incident occurred at the hands of a popular Kogi delicacy known as Amala.

Governor Ahmed Ododo described the event as deeply troubling and ordered a thorough probe by the Commissioner for Health into the circumstances surrounding the deaths, focusing on potential food poisoning or contamination. Fanwo expressed concern over the tragedy and directed the Commissioner for Health to examine the possibility of contaminated food or other contributing medical or environmental factors.

He stated that the investigation would involve examining relevant samples and evidence in line with public health procedures. The government was also troubled to learn that the family's dog had died after consuming the same meal, and this development would be included in the scope of the investigation. The Ministry of Health was tasked with collaborating with relevant agencies and stakeholders to ensure a thorough probe and the implementation of appropriate public health measures.

The government urged the public to remain calm and wait for the conclusion of the investigation before drawing conclusions about the cause of the deaths. Governor Ododo commiserated with the bereaved family and the people of Ihima, praying for their strength and comfort. He assured residents of Kogi State that further information would be released as verified facts emerged from the ongoing investigation.

The incident took place in Ihima, the headquarters of Okehi LGA in Kogi Central Senatorial District.
