DCI reveals plan to use boda boda riders to snitch on drug traffickers

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced plans to enlist boda boda riders in their efforts to combat drug trafficking. The DCI, in collaboration with the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service, and local administration, organized a sensitization meeting for boda boda leaders in Shanzu Ward, Mombasa County. Approximately 50 boda boda chairpersons and leaders attended the meeting, held at Mwembe Legeza Village.

According to the DCI, boda boda operators are well positioned to identify suspicious activities within their communities and can provide crucial information to law enforcement agencies. The agency emphasized that boda boda riders could play an important role in preventing, identifying, and reporting drug trafficking activities. The sensitization session focused on addressing the issue of narcotic drug abuse among boda boda riders, the drugs commonly trafficked in the area, the link between drug abuse and road accidents, and the vital role boda boda riders could play in preventing, identifying, and reporting drug trafficking.

The DCI urged the riders to report suspected trafficking activities and share information to assist investigators in identifying and apprehending drug traffickers. Attendees expressed their commitment to working closely with law enforcement agencies, sharing timely information that could aid in identifying and apprehending drug traffickers.

This initiative is part of the DCI's strategy to enhance community participation in combating narcotic drugs. By strengthening ties with local communities, the agency aims to disrupt drug trafficking networks and promote safer communities.
