Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has proposed the establishment of a ‘Maha CSR Authority’ to enhance the efficient, transparent, and coordinated utilization of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds in Maharashtra. According to the Chief Minister, a unified platform is required to bring together the various CSR initiatives that are currently being implemented independently at different levels.
Upon receiving the CM's directive, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has revived a proposal to provide job opportunities for the 13 individuals affected by the Maval protest. The Chief Minister will head the proposed authority, while senior state officials and industry representatives will form the Governing Council. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will serve as the Member-Secretary of the Governing Council and the Head of the Executive Council.
The 'Maha CSR Authority' is intended to focus on coordinating, monitoring, and ensuring the proper deployment of CSR funds. The Chief Minister directed officials to create a high-quality "project bank" aligned with government priorities and make it accessible to corporations and NGOs. Additionally, the authority will assist eligible Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in selecting suitable projects and NGOs, while promoting exemplary CSR practices across the state.
The primary objective of this initiative is to allocate financial support to priority government projects through CSR funding when necessary. Furthermore, the authority will give special attention to maintaining and repairing projects funded through CSR, as many of these projects become non-functional after a few years due to a lack of maintenance funds. The Chief Minister emphasized that the proposed CSR authority should prioritize the upkeep and repair of older projects to prevent this issue.
The Chief Minister also suggested exploring the concept of 'Diaspora Connect' to mobilize CSR and social development funds through the participation of Maharashtrians residing abroad and outside the state.
