Brentford batter shambolic Spurs 3-0

Tottenham suffered a disastrous 3-0 loss to Brentford in their first Premier League match of the season, despite spending over £200 million ($272 million) in an effort to enhance their team. Roberto De Zerbi included four of his new signings in the starting lineup, including Sandro Tonali, Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Jan Paul van Hecke, with Mateus Fernandes replacing them in the second half.

Brentford, however, dominated with a dynamic performance, exposing Tottenham's flaws in their costly rebuilding plan. Keane Lewis-Potter and Vitaly Janelt scored in the first half, while Michael Kayode added a third goal after the break. Igor Thiago missed a penalty that could have extended Brentford's lead. Tottenham's manager, De Zerbi, aims to restore "the soul of the team" after their 17th-place finish last season, but opted to make 20-year-old Archie Gray the youngest captain in the club's history.

This decision, coupled with Tottenham's poor performance, resulted in a spineless display from the team, which lost its opening game for the second time in the last 11 seasons.
