Bayern battle past Dortmund 2-1 to win German Supercup

Michael Olise scored a goal and created another as Bayern Munich triumphed 2-1 over Borussia Dortmund in the season-opening German Supercup match at the latter's home stadium on Saturday. After a standout performance at the World Cup, Olise was Bayern's most dangerous attacker, often driving down the right flank. He set up Nathaniel Brown for the 28th-minute opener and then netted his own goal just before halftime.

A late goal from former Wolves striker Fabio Silva drew Dortmund closer, though Maximilian Beier's shot from close range failed to find the target. Bayern striker Harry Kane praised the victory, stating it was a strong start to the season after the team had struggled domestically last year. Coach Vincent Kompany emphasized the team's hunger to repeat their dominant form from previous years.

The win marked Bayern's 12th Supercup success, with the trophy renamed in honor of club legend Franz Beckenbauer in 2025. Bayern coach Kompany made a selection surprise by placing left-back Nathaniel Brown behind Harry Kane in attacking midfield. Brown initially struggled but was instrumental in setting up the opening goal. An unfortunate offside call missed out on equalizing for Dortmund when Ramy Bensebaini headed in a cross.

Just before halftime, Olise capitalized on a poor backpass from Job Bellingham to score Bayern's second. Despite a spirited second-half display, Dortmund couldn't find the equalizer, and the victory secured Bayern's second consecutive Supercup title.
