Anthropic IPO could break SpaceX record

The debut of AI company Anthropic, a rival to OpenAI, could shatter the record set by SpaceX, according to US media reports. SpaceX’s IPO in June achieved a valuation of $1.77 trillion, raising $85.7 billion, the largest such offering ever. Anthropic’s bankers have informed potential investors that the company could seek to raise over $100 billion in its IPO, potentially valuing the firm at $2 trillion, a significant leap from its $965 billion valuation in its latest funding round in June.

Only a select few companies, including Apple, Microsoft, and Nvidia, have managed to surpass the $2 trillion threshold. Anthropic has not responded to requests for comment. The company, founded in 2021 by siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei and other former OpenAI executives, has positioned itself as a safety-focused alternative in the AI race.

Its coding assistant, Claude Code, is a popular product, with projected annual revenue reaching $47 billion. However, Anthropic has faced challenges meeting demand for computing power, and its relationship with the Trump administration's administration has been strained. In March, the government terminated its contracts with Anthropic, designating the company a supply chain risk due to refusal to grant the military unfettered access to its AI models. Anthropic deemed this action unconstitutional retaliation.
