An 18-year-old with a sword attacks a school in Sweden, leaving 1 dead and 2 injured

On Friday, an 18-year-old man wielding a sword carried out a school attack in Fagersta, Sweden, resulting in one death and two serious injuries, according to a police chief. The suspect was apprehended following the incident at Brinell School, which was in session with approximately 400 to 500 students present. Police confirmed the use of firearms during the suspect's arrest; however, the attacker's condition remains unclear. No motive has been disclosed at this time.

Swedish national police have initiated two house searches in connection with the suspect, and numerous witnesses are anticipated to be questioned as part of the ongoing investigation. Vastmanland County officials revealed that the two injured boys were between 12 and 17 years old, while the identity of the deceased remains undisclosed.

An alarm was triggered in the early afternoon, prompting police to establish a perimeter around the school and lockdown procedures in neighboring schools. Roadblocks were also set up in the vicinity.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed sorrow over the violence, emphasizing that the police are conducting an intensive investigation. He conveyed his thoughts to those impacted by the event. The Fagersta city government established a crisis center at a nearby sports hall to aid those affected. The Vastmanland County government reported that numerous individuals were affected, and various responders, including police, fire services, and healthcare workers, are providing support.
