Amid CJP ‘inspections’, Rajasthan government admits 611 schools have no buildings

On Friday, a team from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) was attacked while attempting to inspect a government school in Bagru, near Jaipur. The team's objective was to investigate allegations that the school, which was previously closed due to unsafe conditions, was being operated out of a cowshed. Last year, the school's building was deemed unsafe, leading to the relocation of students to a temporary enclosure that also houses buffaloes.

However, this school is not an isolated case. According to the Rajasthan government, there are 611 schools across the state that lack buildings, with 38 of them located within the state capital itself. In addition to the lack of buildings, 2,047 schools do not have toilet facilities, and 1,049 do not have drinking water facilities.

The worst-performing districts in terms of schools without buildings include Jhalawar's Aklera block (23), Khanpur (16), and Jhalrapatan (11). Among girls' schools, two are in Jaipur, two in Alwar, and one each in Barmer, Churu, Dungarpur, Karauli, Kota, and Rajsamand. The government has allocated funds to repair and renovate dilapidated schools and build new ones, aiming to prioritize the construction of buildings in schools without them as well as those in deteriorating structures.
