After Root, Stokes calls ECB decision 'shambolic' over Headingley’s exclusion

Ben Stokes has expressed his frustration over the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) decision to exclude Headingley from the men's Ashes 2027 venues. The omission has drawn criticism from many within English cricket, with Headingley being a significant venue for the team. Former England captain Stokes was particularly upset about the lack of an Ashes Test at Leeds, stating that the decision is "shambolic."

He added that great wins aside, the omission is a matter of disappointment, with the Test pitch at Headingley being one of the best in the country. Another former England captain, Michael Vaughan, agreed, calling the decision "shambolic" and expressing disappointment that the ground won't host an Ashes Test until 2029. The decision comes after England captain Joe Root admitted it was a shame Headingley wouldn't be part of the 2027 schedule, especially considering the strong home record at the venue.

The 2027 Ashes series will be played at five grounds, with Nottingham serving as the most northern venue, while Lord's, Edgbaston, The Kia Oval, and Southampton's Utilita Bowl will host the matches.
