7 people, including 2 police officers, die following a head-on collision in northeast England

Early Saturday, a head-on collision in northeast England claimed the lives of seven individuals, including two police officers. The accident occurred near Middlesbrough on the A66 highway, following a pursuit. A Volkswagen Passat carrying five passengers was traveling the wrong way down the highway when it collided with a police vehicle moving in the correct direction.

The crash took place at 3:39 a.m., and all seven victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The two officers identified as Matthew Blades and Tom Clough succumbed to their injuries. Cleveland Police, in collaboration with the Independent Office for Police Conduct, are currently investigating the incident. The families of the deceased have been notified and offered specialized support.
