10 dead as Russia, Ukraine trade fresh strikes after deadly shopping centre attack

At least 10 people lost their lives in recent Russian and Ukrainian missile and drone strikes in Ukraine, according to initial reports. The deadliest incident occurred on Saturday when Russian missile and drone attacks killed seven people across the country. Three more fatalities were reported in a Ukrainian drone strike that targeted Russia's Krasnodar region.

The heightened violence came a day after a devastating Russian attack on a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih, which killed at least 16 people, according to Ukrainian authorities. In Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that one person was killed and another wounded when ballistic missiles hit railway infrastructure overnight.

Russian forces also targeted a locomotive depot in the Kyiv region, killing two people on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Russian drone strikes killed one person overnight in the Zaporizhzhia region and caused three fatalities and 15 injuries during a daytime attack. Another minibus attack wounded three people in Zaporizhzhia.

In Russia's southern Krasnodar region, two children were killed and two adults wounded in a Ukrainian drone strike. Zelenskyy alleged that the strikes were a "double-tap attack," with a second wave of drones following an initial assault. Rescue operations were ongoing as of early Saturday, with 130 people injured and nine still missing in the Krasnodar region.

President Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, calling them "an absolute Russian atrocity" and vowing a response. The escalating conflict comes amid a shortage of US-made Patriot air defense interceptors for Ukraine, leaving the country vulnerable to Russian ballistic missile strikes. Meanwhile, Ukraine has continued long-range drone attacks inside Russia, including targeting energy infrastructure.
