1 dead after Toronto police officer opened fire in North York

Toronto police report that a suspect died after an officer opened fire during an altercation in the north end of the city. The incident occurred Saturday afternoon near Wilson and King High avenues after officers were called to reports of a damaged car driving erratically. The vehicle subsequently crashed and the driver attempted to escape.

Upon arriving at the scene in North York, a single officer discharged their weapon during the events. The suspect succumbed to injuries at the location and no officers sustained injuries. The Special Investigations Unit, the province’s police watchdog, is currently investigating the shooting.
