Walmart communications chief Allyson Park to leave company

Walmart's Chief Communications Officer Allyson Park will be leaving the company early next year, according to an internal memo reported by Bloomberg on Friday. Park, who has been with Walmart for over three years, will transition into an advisory role starting September 1st before her departure on February 1st. The company plans to search for her replacement externally.

Park's tenure at Walmart has been marked by her efforts to integrate the communications department more closely with other parts of the business. During her time there, Walmart expanded its communications team and increased its use of artificial intelligence. She also played a key role in the company's communications strategy during last year's CEO transition, following Doug McMillon's departure and John Furner's succession.

Prior to joining Walmart, Park held positions at Yum! Brands and the privately held food company Mars Inc. Her departure comes on the heels of several other senior leadership exits at Walmart this year. In July, Kieran Shanahan, the U.S. Chief Operating Officer, left the company. In May, Sam's Club COO Tom Ward and U.S. Store Operations head Cedric Clark also departed.

Walmart, the world's largest retailer by revenue, continues to invest in technology and automation as it expands its e-commerce, advertising, and membership businesses. The company has not yet disclosed a timeline for selecting Park's successor, other than its commitment to considering external candidates for the role.
