UAE approves new review fees for universities and technical education institutions

Abu Dhabi, UAE - The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has announced a new set of review fees for universities and technical education institutions. This framework aims to bolster the quality, efficiency, and sustainability of the country's higher education and vocational training system. Dr. Ahmed Al Shuaibi, Undersecretary at the Ministry, emphasized that these review fees, which pertain to licensing, accreditation, and renewal processes, are distinct from tuition fees paid by students.

The framework seeks to enhance the competitiveness of institutions and bolster confidence among students and the public. It outlines a clear financial breakdown for institutions regarding licensing, institutional accreditation, programme accreditation, and their renewals. The fees will also account for the costs of external assessors and specialists involved in the review process.

These arrangements will adhere to government financial and oversight rules, ensuring transparency, fairness, and consistency. The collected fees will be deposited into the Review Fund for Higher Education Institutions and Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institutions, established by a Cabinet decision. This fund will support licensing reviews, accreditation processes, and the utilization of external assessors, experts, and international organizations.

The objective is to preserve the independence, reliability, and long-term sustainability of the accreditation system in the UAE.
