Two men lost their lives when a sand-harvesting wall collapsed on them in Athi River South Sub-County, Machakos County on Thursday. The victims were identified as Hassan Iddi Ali, 48, and Amos Musyoki Nzioka, 37. According to witnesses, a group of five individuals had gone to the location to collect sand when the wall unexpectedly gave way, burying the two men underneath the debris.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, who recovered the bodies and determined they had sustained life-threatening injuries, including broken legs and head trauma. The men were pronounced dead at the scene.

In a separate incident in Mwea East Sub-County, Kirinyaga County, a three-year-old boy drowned while playing with other children in a fish pond owned by his grandparents. The child, aged between three and four years, was visiting his grandparents when the tragedy occurred around 4pm. Police arrived at the scene following a report and confirmed the boy had already been retrieved from the pond, but tragically, he had passed away.
