Troops gun down terrorist, rescue kidnap victim in Sokoto, Kaduna

On August 20 and 21, 2026, troops of the Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA demonstrated their resolve in combating terrorism. In Kaduna State, Sector 1 troops thwarted a terrorist attack after receiving a distress call about a kidnapping. The kidnappers had abducted a 43-year-old man in Awon Community, Kachia Local Government Area. The troops swiftly tracked and apprehended the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their captive before they could flee. The rescued victim was later reunited with his family.

In Sokoto State, on August 21, Sector 2 troops, in collaboration with local security personnel, engaged terrorists in Kwaren Gamba Village of Sabon Birni Local Government Area. The troops successfully drove the attackers away in disarray. During the pursuit, one terrorist was killed, and two mobile phones, cash, an ATM card, recharge cards, and other items were recovered from the scene.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA continues to conduct operations in the Joint Operations Area to prevent terrorists from operating freely and to ensure the safety of communities. The task force urges the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any credible information to the security forces to aid their mission towards restoring lasting peace and security.
