Road Ministry to report two people to EOCO for influencing property owners affected by road constructions

Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza has disclosed that certain individuals are deliberately manipulating property owners affected by road construction projects to demand higher compensation than what the government offers. The Minister explained that despite the government's competitive compensation offers, these saboteurs have led some property owners to sue for more money, which is delaying road projects and causing financial losses for the state.

"These people often convince the property owners to go to court to stop the project," Agbodza stated. He urged those responsible to stop this practice and said steps are being taken to report two of them to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for investigation. The Minister also noted that courts have consistently ruled in favor of the government in such cases.

The Accra-Kumasi road, currently under construction, is not intended to replace the existing road. The government plans to work on the existing road alongside the new expressway. The new expressway is seen as an alternative route connecting the two cities. The government aims to complete both projects by 2027. The Minister highlighted that delays in road projects are due to some individuals pressuring property owners to take legal action to demand more compensation.

He emphasized that the state's interests should not be compromised by these individuals. During his visit, Agbodza inspected various road construction sites, including the Emena, Appiadu, and Donyina roads, the Kumasi Outer Ring Road Project, the Suame Interchange, and ancillary works.
