Revised national migration policy’ll protect migrants, support Nigerians’ reintegration — Minister

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved Nigeria's Revised National Migration Policy, marking a significant milestone in the country's efforts to enhance migrant protection, support the reintegration of returning Nigerians, and leverage migration for national development. The policy's adoption comes after an extensive review and consultation process involving government institutions, state governments, civil society organizations, academia, development partners, and other stakeholders.

Dr Bernard Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, emphasized that the policy would provide a stronger national framework for Nigeria's international migration commitments, improve protection for migrants, expand opportunities for safe and regular migration, enhance support for returning Nigerians, and maximize the developmental contributions of migration.

Doro highlighted that the adoption of the policy reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to institutional reform and aligning Nigeria's international obligations with practical benefits for citizens. The policy is expected to strengthen institutional coordination, respond to emerging migration trends, and align Nigeria's migration priorities with regional and international frameworks.
