Putrajaya gears up for National Day bash, expects 80,000 visitors

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 21 — The Malaysian government is preparing for a grand National Day celebration on August 21, 2026, at Dataran Putrajaya, with an anticipation of over 80,000 visitors. The preparations for the event, themed "Malaysia Madani: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati", are already 85-90 per cent complete. According to Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communications, the government has set a modest budget for the celebration, despite maintaining the excitement of the event.

The air show will be a smaller affair this year, due to the global energy crisis, and the parade assets have been reduced. However, the Ministry of Communications has established 18 working committees, with the Logistics and Venue Preparation Committee as a key player in ensuring site readiness and logistical requirements. The final rehearsal for the celebration will be held from August 26 to 29, involving 10,819 participants from 77 contingents, 328 assets, 22 electric vehicles, 112 live assets, 22 marching bands and 11 decorated cars.
