Punjab Announces New School Timings From August 24

The Punjab School Education Department has announced new school timings for public and private institutions in the province, effective from August 24, 2026. This change comes ahead of the schools' reopening after the summer vacation. All public and private schools in Punjab will now operate from Monday to Friday. Public schools will have a single shift schedule, operating from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, and from 8:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Fridays.

Double shift schools will have two sessions - a morning shift from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and an evening shift from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., with Fridays closing at 5:30 p.m. as well. The new timings will be in place until October 15, 2026. The School Education Department has instructed all District Education Authority (DEA) chief executives to ensure adherence to these new schedules.

They have also granted DEA chief executives the flexibility to adjust the 15-minute opening and closing time gap for girls' schools within their districts, based on local convenience. The decision was made by Mudassir Riaz Malik, the Secretary of the School Education Department, following approval from the necessary authorities.
